OUR SPACE SERVICE
"Re-design the next thing that you throw out in 100 different ways". My conceptual and design thinking evolved a simple item – a tissue – into a substantial service. Out of 100 sketches, I designed 3 prototypes: (1) environmental friendly cotton sleeves, used instead of tissues; (2) fashionable shoulder pads with hidden tissue packs; (3) a wedding vow keepsake – in Egyptian weddings, it is customary for the Sheikh to cover the handshake of the groom and father-in-law with a white handkerchief while reading out the vows. I substituted the tissue (handkerchief) with a wooden box that I have designed and engraved with a Quran verse.
Our Space service was born. It develops a new area in couples' homes by following the design and concept of the keepsake, to remind the couple of their vows and create an open channel of communication. Wall additions would be built to create a private sanctuary. Circular glass sliding doors, engraved with the vows, would be installed. Glass wipe boards would be used for communication, and a customized typographic mural would be created, based on the wedding ceremony details such as date, time, etc.
